Bio

AM DeBrincat is a Maltese-American painter based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work blends oil paint, digital photography, and printmaking into layered paintings that explore how we construct identity in the digital age.

AM DeBrincat was born in San Francisco, California and studied literature and art at the Universidad de Sevilla and the University of Oregon. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Parsons the New School for Design in New York City.

Her work has been exhibited widely, including recent solo shows in Los Angeles, New York City, Sweden, and Australia, and group shows in Europe, Canada, Australia, Mexico City, and throughout the US. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), Chashama, and the Wassaic Project, and has received grants and funding from the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Durst Foundation, and the Deming Fund.

Statement

AM DeBrincat’s paintings create unique worlds where online and offline life meet and merge. Her mixed media technique combines fragments of images sourced from social media and online image searches which are xerox transfer printed onto canvas and intermingled with lush oil painting. Combining digital and analog media like pieces in a visual puzzle, DeBrincat builds paintings which explore how we create identity and sense of self in the digital age.
